Tim Glover Receives Mention for the Bowerman Award

Jan. 18, 2012

NEW ORLEANS - Illinois State junior javelin thrower Tim Glover received mention in the preseason watch list for the 2012 Bowerman Award, as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Bowerman Award is bestowed to the best male and female collegiate track & field athlete of that year.

An All-American in the field, Glover is the reigning NCAA Division I national champion in the javelin, holding the top throw in the nation by a collegiate athlete of 263-06. He is a two-time MVC champion and a two-time recipient of the MVC’s Outdoor Most Outstanding Field Athlete Award. In addition to that, he holds two of the three top throws in ISU history, the third, coming from his father, Robert Glover.

At the 2011 USA Outdoor Championships, Glover finished sixth, placing higher than any other collegiate athlete at the meet with a throw of 245-10 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. His competition included former Olympians, the reigning USA champion and the current USA distance holder.

The Bowerman debuted in 2009 and is presented annually by the USTFCCCA. It is named for the legendary Oregon track & field and cross country coach Bill Bowerman, who served the sport of track & field in numerous ways. His leadership in the USTFCCCA’s predecessor organization, the National Collegiate Track Coaches Association, and his contributions to NCAA track & field and the running community as a whole are among his many lasting legacies.

Glover and the rest of the Illinois State track & field team begin the outdoor season March 31 at the EIU Big Blue Classic in Charleston, Ill.
