NORMAL, Ill. - Due to the construction on the new renovations to Hancock Stadium, the date for the 2012 Illinois State football season opener against Dayton has been moved from Thursday, Aug.30, to Saturday, Sept. 1, beginning at 1 p.m. at Hancock Stadium.
The game was originally scheduled for a 7 p.m. start Thursday night, but was moved to an early afternoon start on Saturday due to construction beginning on Hancock Stadium that will affect the stadium's lighting for night games. With the change, the Redbirds will now have five games in the season's opening month, including the 101st meeting between Illinois State and Eastern Illinois in the Mid-America Classic at Hancock Stadium Sept. 15.
In addition to home games against Dayton and Eastern Illinois, the Redbirds will host in-state rival Southern Illinois for Homecoming 2012 (Oct. 6), followed by home games the next two weeks against Youngstown State (Oct. 13) and Missouri State (Oct. 20). ISU will wrap up its 2012 six-game home schedule Nov. 17 against defending Football Championship Subdivision National Champion North Dakota State.
