NORMAL, Ill. – Just before the Illinois State soccer team ends its regular-season play, the Redbirds will take the time to honor its graduating seniors, Sunday, Oct. 19, on Senior Day at Adelaide Street Field. Kickoff against Indiana State is slated for 1 p.m. The Redbirds will also celebrate Heidecke Day after the conclusion of Sunday's game.
ISU seniors Keri Kujawa, Gabbi McArtor, Aryn Newsom, and Rachel Tejada will be recognized for their contributions to the team, before the start of the game at mid-field.
Former ISU soccer player Julie Heidecke passed away after playing one season for the Redbirds. Although her time on the team was cut short due to a tragic automobile accident, Heidecks's personality and positive demeanor set a lasting impression with her coaches and teammates. In her honor, every season the Julie Heidecke Foundation and Redbird soccer team awards one player who demonstrates commitment, spirit, determination, leadership, sportsmanship, academic strength, morality and concern for others. The award ceremony will take place outside the field next to the Julie Heidecke Tribute Tree. Allie Newsom was the 2013 award winner.
