NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's golf team will begin its final tournament of the fall season, when the Georgetown Intercollegiate tees off at the Members Club at Four Streams Golf Course Monday. The Intercollegiate will feature two rounds Monday (36 holes) and the final round (18 holes) Tuesday. The first two rounds will begin with an 8 a.m., shotgun start and the final round will begin with tee times on the 7,100 yard, par-71 course.
Head coach Ray Kralis is confident with the way the team looks going into this tournament.
"I like the way our top guys are playing and feel we are moving in the right direction." Kralis said. "Everyone in the lineup is strong enough to weather any storms, so a key will be staying positive and patient if we make a few mistakes. We can make it easier on ourselves with a conservative strategy, which will minimize miscues and encourage confident swings, especially as we are getting a feel for the course."
ISU will compete against 11 other teams, including DePaul, Georgetown, Gonzaga, Penn State, Seattle, St. Josephs, Temple, Toledo, US Naval Academy, Weber State and William and Mary College. Illinois State is the only Missouri Valley Conference team and is ready to contend with the majority of the BIG EAST Conference teams.
The Illinois State lineup will consist of Jordan Fahel, Tyler Gentilella, Josh Edison, Zach Burry, and Jason Marrs. Burry led the team and tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard, carding a three-round score of 216 (72-73-71) at the Firestone Invitational, ISU's previous tournament.
The first round of the intercollegiate begins with an 8 a.m., shotgun start Monday.
