COLUMBIA, Mo. – In a second round that was suspended at the tail end because of darkness, the Illinois State men's golf team has climbed eight spots with three golfers needing one hole each to complete the second round. Play will resume on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. for the completion of the second round, and the entirety of the third.
Through 35 and a half holes for ISU, the Redbirds' two under par second round is the third-lowest score in the round, as the Redbirds climbed eight spots into a tie of ninth place, as the second round will resume tomorrow morning.
TJ Barger and Max Faucquez are the top two golfers for the Redbirds, as the pair are each +1 and tied for 26th, as Barger has finished his second round and Faucquez needing one hole to finish.
Barger had rounds of 67 and 74 on the par-70 course, as he ranks third in par three scoring (2.88), tied for first in par five scoring (4.25), is tied for the ninth-most birdies in the field (eight), and he has one of seven eagles in the tournament.
Faucquez opened his day with a five-over 75, before coming back in the second round, and with one hole to play, is four shots under par with only the par-three second hole remaining. Through 35 holes, he is tied for the ninth-most birdies in the field (eight).
Pietro Pontiggia remains one hole shy of completing his second round, as he opened the day with a four-over 74, and is even par through 17 holes in the second round, with only the par-four third hole to play. He is tied for 53rd in the field, fifth in the tournament in par five scoring (4.50), and is tied for the fifth-most birdies in the field (nine).
Gonzalo Cuellar is tied for 69th with one hole to play, as he had a seven-over 77 in the opening round, and is -1 in the second round with only the par-four third hole remaining. Aiden Cudney is tied for 79th with one hole to play, as he had a six-over 76 to open his tournament, and is three shots over par in the second round, after recording birdies in two of his last three holes heading into the suspension of play.
