ISU Tied for Second after First Round of Georgetown Intercollegiate

Washington, D.C. – After the first 18 holes of the Georgetown Intercollegiate, the Illinois State men's golf team is tied for second place with Seattle.  Jordan Fahel, shooting par (71), and Tyler Gentilella, shooting 1-over-par (72), are leading the team with a total team score of 293 Monday. The second round wasn't played due to a frost delay in the morning.

Head coach Ray Kralis explains how the weather and course conditions have been affecting the team.

"The golf course provides plenty of challenges, and it is difficult to get through it all without dealing with a bit of adversity," Kralis said. "You always feel like you left a few out there, but the team carried itself well and battled until the end. Jordan and Tyler came through with solid scores, and everyone can take positives into Tuesday.  We have a great opportunity to finish the fall on a high note, and I am confident this group will finish in strong fashion."

With Fahel and Gentilella leading the pack, Jason Marrs (74) shot 3-over-par and Zach Burry carded a 76, leaving him 5-over-par after the first round.  Josh Edison followed close behind, shooting a 78 for 7-over-par.

Out of the 12 teams competing, Toledo is in front with a total score of 284. Seattle is tied for second with the Redbirds, while Penn State (294) and US Naval Academy (297) sit in fourth and fifth, respectively.

The round that was missed due to frost today will not be made up and the final round will start Tuesday with tee times.
