DES MOINES, Iowa – Junior Kadi Ilves advanced to the flight one singles semifinals to lead Illinois State at the Missouri Valley Conference Individual Championships Friday.
Meanwhile, after falling in their opening matches, freshman Chanel Scudiero and sophomore Natalia Parchowska each posted victories and will now play for fifth place in flight four and flight six singles, respectively.
Ilves defeated Northern Iowa's Elvira Lopez, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the flight one singles semifinals. Scudiero initially lost to Wichita State's Giulia Guidetti, 7-5, 6-2, before winning in flight four singles versus Bradley's Irinka Toidze, 7-5, 6-3.
Parchowska first lost to Bradley's Liz Przystawski, 7-5, 6-1, and then won, 6-0, 6-4, versus Missouri State's Rebecca McIsaac in flight six singles. Scudiero and Parchowska will both play for fifth place.
In flight one doubles play, the duo of Ilves and Scudiero fell to Evansville's Marina Moreno and Marketa Trousilova, 8-6. In flight two, Valerija Gercar and Donna Haycock lost to Missouri State's Abby Belote and Mackenzie Rozell. The duo of Cricket Geldermann and Parchowska fell to Missouri State's Rebecca McIsaac and Ema Turudija,8-7(2). All three teams will now compete for fifth place.
The MVC Individual Championships will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. at Roger Knapp Tennis Center.
