ST. LOUIS -- The Missouri Valley Conference has announced a change in its slate of 2014-15 championship sites. Illinois State University will host the 2015 MVC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, May 15-17, in Normal, Ill.
"It is always a privilege to host MVC Championships, and we are pleased to be able to bring the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship back to Normal," Director of Athletics Larry Lyons said. "I know Jeff and his staff, as well our administration team, will provide a great championship experience for the student-athletes competing this spring.
The MVC Outdoor meet rotates among member institutions that have outdoor facilities of sufficient quality to host the event. Missouri State, which last hosted in 1995, was anticipated to host the 2015 MVC Track & Field Championship, but MSU alerted the league office that its javelin venue would not be ready for the spring. Missouri State will be pushed back in the rotation to host the MVC meet in 2017.
"Our coaching staff is thrilled to be able to host the Valley Outdoor Track and Field Championships this May with the support of the administration and our facilities staff," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Jeff Bovee said. "This will be a fantastic opportunity for our staff to showcase our young team and kick start a new era of Illinois State Track and Field! We have a unique venue in which the field events are contested inside of the track allowing for a fan-friendly experience where one can see all of the events simultaneously from any location."
Illinois State, originally scheduled to host the championship in 2017, was able to secure the venue and proper hotel accommodations for the participating teams for this coming spring. Illinois State most recently hosted the MVC Outdoor Championship in 2010. Indiana State (2016), Missouri State (2017) and UNI (2018) are next in the rotation for the league's outdoor championship, which will conduct its 104th outdoor event in 2015.
Eight MVC institutions field men's track & field teams, while nine sponsor women's track & field.
