NORMAL, Ill. – After its first home game of the regular season, the Illinois State women's basketball team will travel to Fort Collins, Colorado, to take on Colorado State Sunday. Tip is scheduled for 1 p.m. (CST).
Octavia Crump recorded a double-double and Katy Winge added 10 points in Illinois State's home opener at Redbird Arena Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as ISU fell to Northern Kentucky, 59-48. Crump finished 5-for-6 from the field with 11 points and 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Winge poured in 10 points and added four assists in the loss. Stekara Hall and Colleene Smith added eight points apiece.
The Redbirds outrebounded Northern Kentucky 39-31, but weren't able to convert those boards into points. Northern Kentucky scored 21 points off of ISU's 26 turnovers.
Illinois State and Colorado State will meet for the second time in program history Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. (CST), in Fort Collins, Colorado. CSU has the sole win between the two teams, as the Rams defeated the Redbirds, 76-61, last season on Nov. 23, 2013, on Doug Collins Court. The game will mark ISU's first appearance in Moby Arena.

DOUBLE THE FUN
Junior forward Octavia Crump led the women's basketball team in its home-opener against Northern Kentucky Wednesday. Despite Crump's first double-double of the season, the Redbirds fell, 59-48, to the Norse. Crump pulled down 13 rebounds, including five offensive boards, while netting 10 points. The 10 points came on a 5-of-6 shooting performance. She also had one assist and one steal in 30 minutes. It marked the fifth double-double of Crump's career.
TOO MANY MISTAKES
ISU couldn't hold on to the ball against Northern Kentucky (Nov. 19), as the Redbirds committed a season-high 26 turnovers, with 16 coming in the opening half. The Norse capitalized on the Redbird miscues, as they scored 21 points off of Redbird turnovers.
DISH IT AND TAKE IT
Though they committed 26 turnovers, Illinois State had a bright spot in the loss to Northern Kentucky (Nov. 19), as the Redbirds dished out 13 assists and grabbed 12 steals in the game. It was the most assists and steals for the Redbirds this season. Katy Winge had a career-high four assists, while Colleene Smith recorded four steals for a career high.
THREE IN SIX
ISU had its quickest turn-around of the season to kick things off for the 2014-15 campaign. Illinois State hosted Northern Kentucky (Nov. 19) to open the 2014-15 home season, after playing on the road at Northern Illinois (Nov. 14) and Wisconsin (Nov. 16). The three games in six days will be the quickest turn-around for the Redbirds this season.
