NORMAL, Ill. – Coming off its first loss of the season, the No. 12-ranked Illinois State football team (7-1, 4-1 MVFC) returns to the friendly confines of Hancock Stadium to host No. 10 Youngstown State (7-2, 4-1 MVFC) Saturday at 1 p.m. ISU head football coach Brock Spack will talk about last week's loss at UNI and preview this week's game against the Penguins on The Brock Spack Show, which airs live Thursday from Schooners on WJBC 1230 AM, beginning at 6 p.m.
The Redbirds fell to No. 12 in both national Football Championship Subdivision polls, following a 42-28 defeat on the road at No. 22 Northern Iowa last Saturday. After trailing heading into the fourth quarter, the Redbirds rallied to tie the game at 21-21 with nine minutes left in the game. However, a 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown on the ensuing drive for UNI swung the momentum for good and the Redbirds suffered their first loss of the season.
No. 10 YSU used a 21-point fourth quarter to overcome South Dakota last Saturday and earn a 28-17 win over the Coyotes. Saturday's game with the Redbirds begins a stretch of three-straight games for the Penguins against ranked opponents, as they conclude the regular season with games at home against Indiana State and on the road at North Dakota State.
Coach Spack will talk with co-hosts Dick Luedke and Ted Schmitz, and will be joined by senior cornerback Mike Banks as this week's player guest. Banks is a four-year starter for the Redbirds and will start in his 44th consecutive game on Saturday against Youngstown State. The University Park, Illinois, native currently ranks fourth on the team with 44 total tackles and leads the team with 30 solo stops and eight passes defended.
Schooners is located at 810 East Grove Street in Bloomington, and sits just off the corner of Grove and Clinton Streets. For those who can't make it out to Schooners to watch the show live, it will be broadcast on WJBC 1230 AM in the Twin Cities and streamed live on GoRedbirds.com.
