NORMAL, Ill.  – The first Redbird Basketball Coaches Shows of the 2014-15 season will air tonight, live from the Pub II in Normal, Illinois. Fans can listen live on GoRedbirds.com, as Barb Smith and Dan Muller preview the two Redbird games this week, including a home game for the women and the second-straight road game for the men.
The Barb Smith Show, hosted by Zach Dietmeier, starts out the night at 6 p.m. Coach Smith will be joined by senior guard Katy Winge. The women's team opened a six-game homestand with UT Martin Sunday and will welcome Arizona State on Dec. 16, as it looks for its first win of the season. Winge is averaging 10.3 points per game this season, averaging 37 percent from the field. She leads the Redbirds from behind the arc, as she has connected on 31 percent of her 3-pointers and is a perfect 11-of-11 from the charity stripe. Winge is also leading the team with 18 assists through seven games.

The Dan Muller Show follows at 7 p.m., hosted by Dick Luedke and Mike Matthews. Coach Muller will be joined by junior transfer guard DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell. The men's team won its most recent road game against UAB Sunday afternoon. The men will travel to in-state rival DePaul Sunday. Akoon-Purcell is averaging a team-best 15.7 points per game and has netted 53 percent of his field goal attempts, leading the Redbirds in both categories. The Orlando, Florida, native is also tied as the team's leading rebounder with 5.7 boards per game.
