BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
The Illinois State men's tennis team (5-4) fell 7-0, to No. 61 Indiana (8-7), Sunday, at the IU Tennis Center in Bloomington, Ind. The loss snapped the Redbirds' current four game winning-streak.
"Today was not our best tennis. We started slow and couldn't rise to the moment of playing a ranked team," head coach Mark Klysner said. "I know the guys aren't happy with their performance today, so I'm hoping this will fire them up for our next matchup against No. 38 Louisville."
The Redbirds lost the early doubles point and could not build momentum in Sunday's singles action.
In the No. 1 doubles, Rolando Torrellas and Jakub Eisner lost to Sam Monette and Daniel Bednarczyk, 8-4, while No. 3 doubles, Muddappa Appanervanda and Rodrigo Oliveira couldn't put away Elliott Yee and Michael Sellitto, as they lost, 8-6. No. 2 doubles Dylan Steffens and Urh Kranjc Domiter match against Dimitrije Tasic and Sven Lalic went unfinished, 7-7.
In No. 1 singles, Wilson was defeated by No. 53 Monette, 6-1, 6-4, while Eisner lost in No. 2 singles to Lalic, 7-5, 6-2. Appanervanda fell in No. 3 singles to Tasic, 6-1, 6-2 and Kranjc Domiter came up short against No. 4 singles-foe Bendnarczyk, 6-1, 6-3. In the No. 5 singles spot Torrellas was defeated by Yee, 6-3, 6-3 and in No. 6 singles, Oliveira lost a tight match to Sellito, 7-6, 7-5.
