Men's Golf Competes in the NYX Hoosier Invitational

Last season ISU finished in second place by five-strokes.

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State men's golf team will travel to Bloomington, Ind., to compete in its last regular season tournament, the NYX Hoosier Invitational April 12-13. The three-round invitational will be held at the par-71, 6,813-yard IU Golf Course. The first two rounds will be played Saturday with the final round held on Sunday, both days are scheduled to begin with a shotgun start.

Head coach Ray Kralis is looking forward to this last competition before the MVC Championship Tournament held later this month.

"Our confidence in ourselves and each other has continued to grow stronger through the year, and with that comes higher expectations," Kralis said. "We know we will play better than average only 50 percent of the time by definition, but we always have to hold ourselves to a high standard with our mental and emotional toughness. I know this group is capable of doing that, and I believe it will give us our best chance to be competitive over all three rounds."

Leading Illinois State will be seniors Parker Freiburg and Wils Hawn. Juniors Jordan Fahel, Josh Edison and sophomore Tyler Gentilella will round out the Redbird line-up.

Illinois State will be competing in a 14-team field that includes Akron, Butler, Evansville, No. 88-ranked Indiana, IPFW, IUPUI, No. 75- ranked Michigan, Oakland, Ohio, Toledo, Western Illinois, Xavier and Youngstown State.

Last year, the Redbirds finished in second place to host Indiana by five-strokes, but hope to step-up their game and end the regular spring season play with a win.
