CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Illinois State women's tennis team was defeated by Northern Iowa in the Redbirds' third Missouri Valley Conference match of the season Saturday. ISU fell to UNI, 6-1, while on the road, dropping the Redbirds' MVC record to 1-2.
Phyllis Tigges won the lone point for the Redbirds in singles competition, defeating Jieke Stroobant, 6-2, 6-2, in Singles No. 1. Tigges and Madeliene Baillon were also the only Redbird duo successful in doubles competition. The pair beat Jieke Stroobant and Erica Medlin, 8-4, but ISU could not secure the double's point.
The Panthers went on to claim victory in all matches not involving Tigges.

- Sydney Wolfe claimed victory over Gaby Phillips, 6-3, 7-5
Doubles
- Tigges/Baillon beat Stroobant and Medlin, 8-4
- Lopez and Santos beat Ilves and Heather Nisbet, 8-2
- Lankelma and Sydney Wolfe beat Stone and Abello, 8-5
The Redbirds continue competition tomorrow, Sunday, April 13, in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake. The match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. CT.
