Redbirds Finish NYX Hoosier Invitational in Sixth Place

Junior Josh Edison led the team with a score of 217 (75-70-72).

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Illinois State men's golf team concluded day two of the NYX Hoosier Invitational Sunday with a team score of 882 (300-293-289), finishing sixth overall out of 14 teams at the IU Golf Course.

Junior Josh Edison led the team with a score of 217 (75-70-72). Edison was able to advance from 18th place to finish tied for 14th overall.

"I couldn't be happier for Josh , it is great to see his work and effort rewarded with a 14th place finish in a solid field of over 70 players," head coach Ray Kralis said. "We played solid today with one of the low three team scores, we can take some positives going forward, but we need to tighten some things up over the next couple weeks leading into Missouri Valley Conference Championships."

Senior Parker Freiburg carded a three-round score of 222 (70-74-78), tying for 31st place, while Senior Wils Hawn (81-74-71), and sophomore Tyler Gentilella (77-75-74) both shot a 226, improving to tie for 46th place. Rounding out the Redbird lineup was junior Jordan Fahel, who tied for 55th place with a combined score of 228 (78-78-72).

Host Indiana tallied an 853 (283-285-285), placing first with four of its golfers in the top-10 on the leaderboard. Michigan was 12-strokes behind in second with a score of 865 (283-284-298), two strokes ahead of third-place Akron with an 867 (299-283-285).

Illinois State was able to finish ahead of Missouri Valley Conference foe, Evansville, who concluded the tournament ninth overall with a team score of 892.

The Redbirds will be back in action Monday, April 28th at the MVC Championships in Silvis, Ill.
