NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's tennis team is preparing to host MVC-foes Evansville and SIU in the last two matches before hosting the MVC Tennis Championships next weekend. The match against Evansville on Friday marks the first outdoor match ISU will play at Gregory Street Courts this season.
The Redbirds (8-8, 1-3 MVC) had originally been slated to begin play against Evansville at 3 p.m. CT but due to possible weather conflicts, the match was rescheduled to be played at 1 p.m. CT at Gregory Street Courts in Normal, Ill.
Evansville (7-11, 0-3 MVC) and ISU last met during the first round of the 2013 MVC Championships where the Redbirds defeated the Aces, 4-0. ISU has claimed victory in seven of the last eight regular season matches against Evansville.
The second match of the weekend will also be played outdoors, when the Redbirds battle the Salukis in the final MVC match of the season. The Salukis (14-7, 3-1 MVC) last met the Redbirds in the 2013 spring season when ISU fell to SIU, 6-1, on the road. Over the last eight seasons, ISU has beat SIU in five of the eight meetings of the two teams.
The Redbirds will first battle Evansville on Friday, April 18 at Gregory Street Courts in Normal, Ill. at 1 p.m. CT. Follow @ISUWomensTennis for live updates on match-play and results.
