Redbirds Fall to No. 54 Wichita State at MVC Championship

NORMAL, Ill. - The Illinois State women's tennis team fell to No. 54 Wichita State in the Missouri Valley Conference Team Tennis Championship semifinals, 4-0, to conclude the 2013-14 season.

The Redbirds fell in the doubles portion of the competition, losing the doubles point to the Shockers in No. 1 and No. 2. Phyllis Tigges and Madeliene Baillon were defeated by Veronika Blaskova and Lucia Kovalova, 8-3, in No. 1, and Montse Blasco Fernandez and Rebecca Pedrazzi defeated Emmie Marx and Sierra Stone, 8-3, in No. 2. Kadi Ilves and Heather Nisbet were down, 7-2, against Julia Schiller and Abby Stevens when No. 3 was abandoned.

In singles competition, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 resulted in Wichita State victories to secure the Shocker victory. Singles No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 were unfinished.
