ISU Student-Athletes Raise $1,200 at `Hardly Normal' Talent Show

New to the program this year was a fan vote through text message poll.

NORMAL, Ill. - In April, the Illinois State Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) hosted the second-annual `Hardly Normal' SAAC Talent Show at Redbird Arena. Admission to the event was free, but donations were accepted to benefit The Baby Fold, and SAAC raised $1,200 dollars, and recently delivered a check to the organization.

During the first talent show in April of 2013, SAAC raised $1,000 dollars, amounting to $2,200 dollars in two years for The Baby Fold The two-hour event included an act from several Redbird teams. If coaches participated in the skit, a team was given five additional points to its total. The skits were judged by a panel, and after the judges' deliberation, the volleyball team took first place, while women's basketball finished second followed by swimming and diving in third. The top-three teams were separated by three total points.

New to the program this year was a fan vote through text message poll. Fans could vote for their favorite skit, which ended in a tie between volleyball and men's cross country/track and field

The donations from the event benefited The Baby Fold in Normal, Ill. The Baby Fold was born out of one woman's desire to care for others and originally started in 1902 by Nancy Mason. The faith-based orphanage for infants and young children has grown in to a multi-service agency, specializing in the care of today's most vulnerable children. They focus on improving the lives of children and families by building safe, loving, healthy environments through adoption services, foster care, residential care, special education and family and community services.
