Winkler Named To CFPA QB Watch List

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State sophomore quarterback Blake Winkler was named to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Quarterback Award Watch List, as announced by the CFPA Monday.

"Congratulations to Blake Winkler on earning a spot on this year's watch list," CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith said. "Winkler will be one of the top MVFC players to watch in 2014."

Winkler was named a 2013 Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team selection, after he started the final nine games behind center during his redshirt freshman season.  The Frankfort, Ill., native completed 127-of-217 pass attempts (58.5 percent) for 1,637 yards and 12 touchdowns and ranked fourth in the MVFC with a pass efficiency rating of 132.8.

The initial watch list includes 36 returning performers, vying for the top quarterback award in the Football Championship Subdivision. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions and are not preemptively eliminated from consideration. The full list of 2014 CFPA winners will be announced January 14, 2015.

The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
