BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – While balancing the demands of workouts and summer classes, members of the Illinois State men's basketball team took time Monday morning to give back to the community by volunteering at KinderCare Learning Center.
Included among the volunteers was junior guard DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell, senior guard Daishon Knight, sophomore center Reggie Lynch and manager John Putyrski.
"It was fun to spend time with the children at KinderCare," Lynch said. "We played basketball with the kids and showed them some of the drills we do in practice. The kids loved it and asked a lot of questions."
Akoon-Purcell, Knight, Lynch and Putyrski spent nearly an hour interacting with 25 youngsters at KinderCare's Bloomington, Ill., location.
The Illinois State men's basketball team plans to continue participating in volunteer opportunities within the community before beginning the 2014-15 season Nov. 16 versus Utah State on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena.
