TORONTO – After leading his team to a hard-fought victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats last Friday, former Illinois State quarterback and current BC Lions pivot Kevin Glenn earned Offensive Player of the Week honors as announced by the Canadian Football League on Tuesday. This is Glenn's first Player of the Week award this season and his first since Week 17 in 2010.
Glenn completed 22-of-36 (61.1%) passes for 407 yards, threw one touchdown and rushed for another in the Lions' 36-29 home win over the Tiger-Cats. Midway through the first quarter, Glenn found Emmanuel Arceneaux on a 10-yard pass to give the Lions an early 10-0 advantage. Glenn also ran twice in the game for 36 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter that gave the Lions a 17-3 lead.
With his 407 passing yards last week, Glenn upped his career total to 41,215 and recorded his 40th career 300-yard passing game and his seventh 400-yard performance. The Detroit, Michigan, native is currently second in the league with 1,797 passing yards and has eight passing touchdowns this season.
Earlier this year, Glenn moved past Tracy Ham into ninth spot all-time in CFL passing yardage and is now within 140 yards of former BC Lion Doug Flutie (41,355 yards). The win last Friday came in Glenn's 161st CFL start and elevated his career record to 85-75-1, including four victories for the Leos in club's last five games. He also recently eclipsed 5,000 career pass attempts and has now thrown 230 touchdown passes.
In four seasons with the Redbirds, Glenn completed 645-of-1,119 pass attempts for 8,032 yards and 61 touchdowns and rushed 247 times for 490 yards and eight scores. He helped lead the Redbirds to their first two playoff appearances in school history in 1998 and 1999 and set 25 school records in his illustrious career.
