NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's gymnastics team ranked No. 16 in the country overall with a team grade-point average (GPA) of 3.48, and was named a Scholar All-America Team by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) Tuesday.  In addition, six Redbirds were named Academic All-Americans by the organization.
Gymnasts Jenna Bossle, Kristyn Bossle, Kimberly Caron and Samantha King were acknowledged for having perfect 4.0 GPAs, while Sydney Kennedy was recognized for having a 3.9 GPA and Samantha Ward for her 3.7 GPA. The NACGC/W recognizes student-athletes individually for attaining a year-long or cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
"I am very proud of our six women who were recognized, because we constantly focus on how our students are doing academically. No. 16 is good and our goal is to keep improving academically as a team," head Coach Bob Conkling said,
Utah led the NCAA women's gymnastics teams with a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.7. Following Utah in second was Texas Woman's with a 3.76 GPA. Southeast Missouri State came in third with a 3.69 GPA, while Western Michigan and Brown concluded the top five with team GPAs of 3.66 and 3.63, respectively.
