MADISON, Wis. – After the first round of the Badger Invitational, the Illinois State men's golf team is tied for 10th place, carding a team score of 306. Jordan Fahel and Josh Edison led the Redbirds through the first 18 holes, while ISU is tied with Charleston Southern at the University Ridge Golf Course.
Head coach Ray Kralis expects the team to bounce back for a better second round.
"We missed out on an opportunity to take advantage of ideal weather conditions and dug a little bit of a hole for ourselves," Kralis said. "Collectively, I expect us to come back strong Monday and build some momentum for the final round."
Fahel is tied for 21st place with a 2-over-par 74, while Edison is close behind with a first round of score of 76. Kyle Meihofer and Tyler Gentillella are tied with a day one score of 78, while Christian Crabill was a stroke behind with a 79.
Out of the 13 teams, Sam Houston State is leading the pack at 283, while Marquette is four strokes behind as a team with a 287. Toledo rounds out the top-three with a 292. Marquette's Patrick Sanchez had the best round of the day, shooting a 4-under par 68.
ISU is preparing for the next round of the invitational Monday, as the second round will begin at 9 a.m., with assigned tee times.
