Redbirds Move Up One Spot In Sports Network Poll

PHILADELPHIA – Coming off a 55-6 defeat of Austin Peay, the Illinois State football team moved up one spot in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 to No. 22 and remained at No. 22 in the FCS Coaches Poll, when both polls were announced Monday

ISU garnered 600 points in The Sports Network FCS Top 25 and moved up a spot from their previous No. 23 ranking.  The Redbirds were followed by Albany (No. 23) and Delaware (No. 24) and the only new addition to this week's poll, fellow MVFC member Indiana State (25).  No. 1 ranked North Dakota State, No. 9 South Dakota State, No. 10 Northern Iowa, No. 15 Southern Illinois, No. 18 Youngstown State, the Redbirds and the Sycamores comprise the league-record seven MVFC representatives in the TSN poll.

The Redbirds earned 122 to stay steady in the FCS Coaches Poll at No. 22, thanks to their dominant defeat of the Governors in the final non-conference matchup of the year for ISU.  The MVFC led all conferences with a league-record seven schools ranked in the coaches poll, with North Dakota State leading the way in the No. 1 spot.  South Dakota State (No. 9), Northern Iowa (No. 10), Youngstown State (No. 12), Southern Illinois (No. 16), Illinois State (No. 22) and Missouri State (No. 23) comprised the record-breaking list of ranked teams, with Indiana State just falling out of the poll despite a win over No. 23 ranked Liberty last weekend.

The Redbirds return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4, for a Homecoming match up against No. 9 South Dakota State (3-1), with kickoff at Hancock Stadium scheduled for 2 p.m.
