MADISON, Wis. – The second round of the Badger Invitational comes to a close with the Illinois State men's golf team sitting in 10th place, shooting a team score of 306, the same score as the first round. Jordan Fahel and Josh Edison led the team for the second round in a row, as the Redbirds stay ahead of conference rivals Bradley and Drake.
Head coach Ray Kralis knows the course is tough, but hopes the team can finish the tournament strong.
"We had some good stretches of golf, but we need to minimize the damage after miscues so we can keep momentum going," Kralis said. "The course doesn't give up much, making it hard to recover from big number holes. We need to finish this off Tuesday with a solid final round so we can take some positives into next week."
Fahel is tied for 22nd place after 36 holes, carding a second-round score of 75, while Edison is tied for 27th, shooting the same score as the first round (76). Kyle Meihofer shot a 76 in the second round followed by Tyler Gentilella (78) and Christian Crabill (79) on the par-72 University Ridge Golf Course.
Sam Houston State maintained its lead after the second round, shooting 293 with a tournament total of 576. Marquette is 10 strokes back with a two round score of 586. USC Upstate (587), Kansas (588), and Toledo (588) are in contention to make a run for second place on the final day of the Invitational.
The Redbirds are preparing for the third round which will begin at 9:30 a.m., with a shotgun start.
