NORMAL, Ill. – By combining to earn a 2.99 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) during the fall of 2014 semester, the Illinois State men's basketball program established a team GPA record, head coach Dan Muller announced Tuesday.
Illinois State's 2.99 GPA broke the previous record by 0.13 points. ISU's former GPA mark was 2.86.
"What our team has done in the classroom over the past six months has been remarkable," Muller said. "With a lot of hard work by a lot of people, including our academic counselor Jeff Spenard, assistant coach Luke Yaklich and most importantly, our players, we had an outstanding semester. I am so proud of our guys and I am proud to be a part of this special program."
Six of Illinois State's men's basketball student-athletes were named to the AFNI Honor Roll, after earning a 3.0 GPA or higher during the fall semester. Five Redbirds finished the fall with a 3.5 GPA or higher.
All ISU AFNI Honor Roll members will be recognized during the Evansville at Illinois State men's basketball game, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m.
