NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State Athletics, in partnership with title sponsor Advocate Bromenn Medical Center, is proud to announce the return of its fifth-annual women's basketball Play 4Kay cancer awareness game. The game will be held on Sunday, Feb. 8, when the women's basketball team takes on Drake on Doug Collins Court.
As Redbird fans have grown to recognize, ISU Athletics looks forward to this event every season, as it is a direct vehicle that generates funds to be donated to cancer research, but also allows ISU to celebrate and lift-up cancer survivors, and those currently battling the difficult disease in all of its forms.
All cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer, are invited to RSVP to attend this season's pre-game social held in the Legend's Room at Redbird Arena, sponsored by the Mennonite College of Nursing and the Student Nurses Association. With an RSVP, survivors and those currently battling cancer are able to receive up to three tickets to the pre-game social and game, in addition to joining the halftime recognition and celebration of those who are standing strong during their current battle or who are survivors.
New to the event this season, cancer survivors and those currently battling the disease can RSVP, donate money to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and stay up to date with the latest news about Play 4Kay at Illinois State, online by visiting www.GoRedbirds.com. As always, $1 hot dogs and pink lemonade will also be sold at the Sodexo concession stands during this game.
Patrons wishing to attend this game as a fan only can purchase $1 tickets from the Illinois State Athletics Ticket Office online at GoRedbirds.com, by-phone at (309) 438-8000 or in-person at one of the ISU Athletics Ticket Offices located either at Redbird Arena or Hancock Stadium, open Monday thru Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. For questions about this event, please contact Assistant Director of Marketing Zach Schroeder at zrschro@ilstu.edu, or by phone at (309) 438-5000.
The ISU Athletics Department and women's basketball team would like to give a special thanks to the generous sponsors that make the Play 4Kay event possible, including Advocate Bromenn Medical Center, Community Cancer Center, Mennonite College of Nursing and the Student Nurses Association at Illinois State University.
Play 4Kay game efforts were started by the late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State head women's basketball coach. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and fought the disease three times until her death in 2009. While courageously battling cancer, Coach Yow started the Kay Yow Cancer Fund in 2007, which serves to raise money for scientific research and to assist the efforts to fight against women's cancers. To date, the fund has grown nationwide and contributed just shy of $4 million to support cancer research.
