Redbird Gymnastics Take On Centenary In Home-Opener

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's gymnastics team hosts their first home meet of the season against Centenary on Sunday, Jan. 18 in Horton Field House beginning at 2 p.m.

"The team has looked great in the gym all week," head coach Bob Conkling said. "I am very excited to face our conference rival, Centenary."

Last weekend, the Redbirds opened the 2015 season at Southeast Missouri State. Senior Sami King hit all four events, scoring a 38.600 and placing third in the all-round for the Redbirds. The three-time NCAA regional qualifier and defending Midwest Independent Conference champion on the balance beam competed to form, taking first place in the event with a score of 9.750, and she also led the team with a score of 9.675 on bars.

Freshman gymnast Marie Priest was also impressive in her first collegiate meet, as she competed in three events and posted the highest score for the Redbirds on vault with a total of 9.550 and on the floor with a score of 9.700.

Centenary returns 13 gymnasts from last year's squad along with two freshmen. The Ladies 2015 season opened last week against Texas Woman's University and fell short with a score of 186.875-189.750.

The Redbird team welcomes all gymnastics club members and its families in central and northern Illinois to the meet this weekend.

Fans are invited to attend an autograph session post meet with the Redbird gymnasts.

Next up, the Redbirds will travel to Chicago on Sunday, Jan. 25 to face Illinois-Chicago at 2 p.m.
