ISU Gymnastics Travel to Illinois-Chicago for Dual Meet

NORMAL, Ill. – Coming off a dual-meet win over Centenary last weekend in home-opener, the Illinois State women's gymnastics team will compete against Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) foe Illinois-Chicago inside the UIC Pavilion on Sunday, Jan. 25 at 2 p.m.

Sunday's meet will mark the Redbirds' third-consecutive dual meet this season, and head coach Bob Conkling is excited to see the competition his team will face this weekend.

"We are very excited to face another conference team this weekend," Conkling said. "We compete against UIC quite a few times this season, so this will be a good chance for both teams to get a better idea of how they compare and will match up for the rest of the season."

The Redbirds lost their first meet of the season against SEMO by a score of 189.650-193.275, but won their second meet last Sunday, with a score of 185.250-188.750. Sophomore Kristyn Bossle placed a score of 9.775 to win the vault competition, and took second on the uneven bars with another score of 9.775.

UIC lost their first meet of the 2015 season against Northern Illinois, with a score of 189.575-192.250, and took third in their second meet of the season in a quad meet with a score of 187.300. The Flames placed 4th with a score of 193.525 in the 2014 MIC Championships at Redbird Arena.

"This week in workouts, are main objective has been to build our strengths, along with making corrections on our weaknesses from last weekend's competition against Centenary," Conkling said. "The team has responded well in workouts and is looking strong and confident for this Sunday's competition."

Following Sunday's meet, the Redbirds return to Horton Field house on Saturday, Jan. 31. at 4 p.m., to host their first quad meet of the season with an Illinois vs. Michigan Classic.
