NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's golf team will head to Akron, Ohio, to compete in the Firestone Invitational at the 7,125-yard, par-72 Firestone Country Club. The two-day tournament will consist of two rounds beginning Monday and the final round Tuesday.
Head coach Ray Kralis explains his expectations for the upcoming tournament.
"We are closer than the last couple outcomes suggest, and everyone is playing stretches of good golf," Kralis said. "We need to minimize the damage after poor shots and stop beating ourselves with big numbers."
Illinois State will compete against 15 other teams, including Akron, Ball State, Eastern Kentucky, Eastern Michigan, Francis Marion, Georgetown, Maryland, Ohio, Old Dominion, South Carolina-Aiken, Toledo, Valparaiso, Western Kentucky, William and Mary, and Xavier.
Competing for the Redbirds will be freshman Trent Wallace, sophomore Zach Burry, senior Tyler Gentilella, as well as juniors Christian Crabill, and Kyle Meihofer.
Monday's rounds begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, while Tuesday's third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m.
