NORMAL, Ill. – The nominees for the 2014-15 Linda Herman Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and Doug Collins Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were announced Wednesday.
The winners will be named at The Reggies, Illinois State's annual academic excellence awards ceremony, on Sunday. The event, held at Redbird Arena, is sponsored by State Farm Insurance.
Nominees for the Linda Herman Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award are Kadi Ilves (tennis; renewable energy), Sami King (gymnastics; exercise science), Kelly McShea (cross country/track and field; elementary education), Regan Romshek (softball; community health education), Rachel Root (swimming and diving; communication sciences and disorders), Eliza Smith (volleyball; public relations), Rachel Tejada (soccer; biological sciences) and Katy Winge (basketball; marketing).
Nominees for the Doug Collins Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award are Jacob Hendren (baseball; mathematics), Daishon Knight (basketball; recreation management), Mark Spelman (football; professional accounting) and Rolando Torrellas (tennis; international business).
Five other awards will be conferred on Sunday, including the Impact Award, Good Neighbor Award, Jill Hutchison Female Athlete of the Year Award and Milt Weisbecker Male Athlete of the Year Award, as well as the Dr. Jim Johnson Phoenix Award.
