TULSA, Okla. – Illinois State faced some of the nation's top collegiate competitors at the ITA All-American Championships, but the Redbirds were unable to secure a victory in day one of pre-qualifying matches.
"Today was a tough day for the guys. I think we had high hopes and didn't play bad, but it was hard to get comfortable in some of our matches," said head coach Mark Klysner.
Christoffer Greve lost his first singles match of the season against Felix Rauch of Memphis, 7-6(2), 6-3. Jakub Eisner fell in a three-set match against Lucas Sanchez of Mississippi State, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4.
Teammates Dylan Steffens and Andreas Boers were also unsuccessful in their matches. Steffens faced Kai Wehnelt of Hawaii-Manca, losing 6-3, 3-6, 6-0. Boers met Ohio State's Chuck Shewalter with the final score, 6-3, 6-3.
"This was a good learning experience for the guys who haven't been here before. We will look to have some better results tomorrow," said Klysner.
The Redbirds will continue play Sunday at day two of pre-qualifying matches.
