ST. LOUIS – Illinois State redshirt freshman Brannon Barry was needed all over the field in 2015 and his hard work was rewarded Tuesday with a selection to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team.
Barry was one of 20 freshmen or redshirt freshmen to be named to this year's team, which is comprised of first-year league players who make a big impact. The St. Charles, Illinois, native played in all 11 games for the Redbirds, splitting time for the Redbirds at both tight end and defensive end.
He led the ISU newcomers with 17 tackles, five of which went for a loss, and ranked third on the team with five sacks on the year. Barry also added an interception and as a tight end, caught one pass for three yards. Barry was named MVFC Newcomer of the Week, after recording three sacks in a win over UNI and he would go on to add a sack in each of the next two wins over Youngstown State and Missouri State. Not only did he contribute on offense and defense, but he was also a standout on special teams with four tackles in kick coverage.
