NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State men's tennis team will take on in-state rival Eastern Illinois this Sunday at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Illinois. The match, slated for a 1 p.m. start, will mark the first home match for the Redbirds and their first time competing in over three weeks.  Â
"We are looking forward to playing our first home match of the season this weekend," said head coach Mark Klysner. "We tend to travel a lot, and it's always nice to play at home in front of our fans and also on courts that we are familiar with."
Illinois State (3-3) is most recently coming off back-to-back wins over IPFW, 6-1, and Chicago State, 7-0. Juniors Jakub Eisner and Rolando Torrellas played huge factors in the Redbird wins, going 2-0 in doubles play and both winning all of their respective singles matches.
Newcomers Andreas Boers and Christoffer Greve have also started the season on a strong note, with Boers on a three-match win streak and Greve undefeated in doubles play this spring.
"I am looking for us to start quick in the doubles and continue the momentum into the singles," said Klysner. "I am just hoping we can stay healthy this week but still get in some good practice time."
The match will be held at the Evergreen Racquet Club in Bloomington, Illinois, which serves as the Redbirds' indoor home facility. The Evergreen Racquet Club is located at 3203 E. Washington St., Bloomington, Illinois.
