LINCOLN, Neb. – The Illinois State women's tennis team fell to Nebraska, 6-1, while on the road at the Lincoln Racquet Club Sunday morning.
In No. 1 singles play, junior Kadi Ilves claimed the only victory throughout all six flights while winning over Nebraska's Maggy Lehmicke 6-3, 6-7(3), 6-4. In No. 2 singles, freshman Donna Haycock fell short to Nebraska's Izabella Zgierska 6-3, 6-3, and in No. 3 singles, freshman Catherine Shulman lost to Nebraska's Mary Hanna, 6-4, 6-1. Meanwhile, sophomore Chanel Scudiero was defeated by Nebraska's Sputri Shivalingaiah, 6-3, 6-3, in No. 4 singles. Similarly, freshman Valerija Gercar fell to Lisa Andersson, 6-2, 6-0, in No. 5 singles, while sophomore Natalia Parchowska suffered a defeat to Mackenna Maddox, 6-4, 6-2, in No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Nebraska topped ISU in all three flights. The No. 1 duo of Ilves and Haycock fell to Nebraska's Zgierska and Hanna, 6-2. In No. 2 doubles, Scudiero and Shulman were defeated by Nebraska's Lehmicke and Anderson, 6-1, while the duo of Gercar and Parchowska lost to Nebraska's Matysova and Shivalingaiah, 6-1, in No. 3 doubles.
Next, the Redbirds will travel to Galesburg, Illinois, to face Western Illinois Sunday, March 1, beginning at 10 a.m.
