Redbird Student-Athletes Break GPA Record

NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State student-athletes set a departmental grade-point average (GPA) record this fall, as Redbird student-athletes combined to post a 3.16 GPA during the fall semester, topping the previous record of 3.15, set during the Fall 2011 and Spring 2012 semesters.

In addition, a record-setting 301 student-athletes were named to the AFNI Honor Roll, while six teams set or tied team GPA records.

The men's tennis and volleyball teams were the team GPA winners, with marks of 3.39 and 3.62, respectively. The volleyball and women's golf teams had the additional achievement of having every student-athlete on the team earn AFNI Honor Roll status.

The baseball (3.15), men's basketball (2.99) and men's cross country (3.38) teams set new GPA records this fall, while the women's golf team (3.60) matched its GPA record. The football (2.86) and volleyball teams set new in-season records during their historic seasons.

Additionally, Illinois State men's student-athletes set a new record with a 3.02 GPA, topping the old mark of 2.95.

Members of the AFNI Honor Roll were recognized during halftime of Illinois State's men's basketball game Tuesday night.
