NORMAL, Ill. – Along with cheering on the Illinois State men's basketball team versus No. 13 Wichita State this Saturday, Feb. 14, at 5 p.m. on Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena, fans will also be treated to a halftime performance by NBC's "America's Got Talent" finalist and ISU alum Christian Stoinev.
A fifth-generation performer who's been entertaining crowds since he was five years old, Stoinev has won international awards and, at just age 13, was one of the youngest acts in the renowned Big Apple Circus. After coming to Illinois State to study broadcast journalism, Stoinev became one of the stars of ISU's historic Gamma Phi Circus. Stoinev pairs his unique hand-balancing skills with his Chihuahua companion, Scooby.
In addition to Stoinev's halftime show, the first 1,000 fans to arrive Saturday will receive a free Illinois State Yowie, provided by Advocate BroMenn. A Yowie looks like a big bandana, but is much more versatile. Joe's Station House will also be handing out free rally towels to the lower bowl.
ISU students have a chance to be Reggie Redbird's Valentine's Day date during Saturday's game. They can tell @RedAlertISU on Twitter using #ILoveReggie why they should be his valentine. The winner will be picked Thursday, Feb. 12, to give Reggie enough time to prepare for the big date.
