O'FALLON, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team suffered a defeat by Saint Louis University, 7-0, while competing at the St. Clair Tennis Club Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday's match marked the third-consecutive time in which the No. 1 doubles duo of junior Kadi Ilves and freshman Donna Haycock have led the Redbirds, claiming the only victory over SLU's Aspen Cervin and Madison Cook, 6-4. In No. 2 doubles, sophomores Chanel Scudiero and Natalia Parchowska suffered a loss to SLU's Kelsey King and Natalia Yacaman, 6-4, while the duo of freshmen Catherine Shulman and Valerija Gercar fell to SLU's Brooke Urzendowski and Maria Toro, 6-2, in No. 3 doubles.
The Redbirds were shut out by SLU in all six flights of singles play. Ilves fell short to SLU's Cervin in No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-2, while Haycock fought hard in a third-set tie-breaker before eventually falling to SLU's King, 6-4, 4-6, 12-10, in No. 2 singles. Meanwhile, in No. 3 singles, Gercar lost to SLU's Yacaman, 6-3, 6-2, while Shulman suffered a loss to SLU's Cook, 6-1, 6-2, in No. 4 singles. Similarly, Scudiero fell to SLU's Urzendowski, 6-2, 6-2, in No.5 singles, while Parchowska was defeated by SLU's Toro, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 singles.
The Redbirds will be back in action Wednesday, March 11 to compete against Southwest Baptist in Bolivar, Missouri beginning at 10 a.m.
