BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Illinois State women's tennis team fell to Southwest Baptist University, 6-3, Wednesday morning.
Sophomore Chanel Scudiero and Natalia Parchowska led the Redbirds in singles play, claiming ISU's two singles victories. Scudiero earned the win over SBU's Beatrix Federer, 6-0, 6-4, in No. 5 singles, while Parchowska defeated SBU's Zorana Jovanovic, 6-0, 6-3, in No. 6 singles. Meanwhile, junior Kadi Ilves fell to SBU's Fanni Varga, 7-6, 7-6, in No. 1 singles, while freshman Donna Haycock lost to SBU's Christina Zentai, 6-3, 6-0, in No. 2 singles. Likewise, in No. 3 singles, freshman Valerija Gercar suffered a loss to SBU's Maria Josie Zehnder, 7-5, 6-1, while freshman Catherine Shulman was defeated by SBU's Lani Tuemmers, 6-3, 6-2, in No. 4 singles.
The duo of Parchowska and Shulman earned another Redbird point by defeating SBU in No. 3 doubles play, beating SBU's Federer and Jovanovic, 8-5. In No. 1 doubles, Ilves and Haycock suffered a defeat by SBU's Varga and Zentai, 8-2, while the duo of Scudiero and Gercar fell to SBU's Zehnder and Tuemmers, 8-1, in No. 2 doubles.
Next up, the Redbirds will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to compete against Marquette March 17, beginning at 1 p.m. Following that, ISU will host UIC at the Gregory Street Tennis Courts in Normal, Illinois, Saturday, March 21, beginning at 1 p.m.
