COLUMBUS, Ohio – Illinois State senior diver Wenting Zhang finished her first day of competition at the NCAA Diving Zone Regionals, Thursday, placing fifth in the 3-meter at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
Zhang, a 2014 NCAA All-American, finished with a final total score of 641.20 which advances her to the NCAA Championships held March 19-21 in Greensboro, North Carolina, at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
"I am very excited for her and proud of the way she represented our program," head diving coach Phil Hoffmann said. "This is a wonderful opportunity for her to be here."
The Shenzhen, China, native currently holds the Illinois State and Horton Pool record on the 3-meter and 1-meter board.
"I am very much looking forward to tomorrow for her and for Molly Schatz," Hoffmann said. "Both of them are in great shape and I am anxious to see what tomorrow brings"
Zhang will continue to compete tomorrow on the 1-meter board along with sophomore Schatz. The competition is scheduled to begin at noon (CST). Live results for the competition can be found at www.divemeets.com.
