NORMAL, Ill. – After taking two out of three against Northern Iowa at home this past weekend, Illinois State will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, for its first Missouri Valley Conference road series against Indiana State.
The Redbirds are on a two-game winning streak after taking the final two games of the series against the Panthers. It's the second time this season that ISU has won consecutive games. ISU's offense scored 20 runs across the three games, including 11 in the series finale.
Leadoff hitter Annie Heineman was named MVC Player of the Week after hitting .550 with 11 hits and six runs. She wasn't the only one producing. Regan Romshek drove in seven runs and hit two home runs to bring her season total to five. Stephanie Gallant also had seven hits over the week and batted .318 in the seven games.
In the circle, freshman Sarah Finck was named MVC Newcomer of the Week after going 3-1 with a 2.28 earned run average.
ISU sits at 2-1 in the Valley, which is tied for second with three other teams. One of those teams is Indiana State. The Sycamores took two out of three from Wichita State last weekend. The Shockers were picked first in the Valley preseason poll, but Indiana State swept the Saturday doubleheader.
Indiana State is currently 8-14 while ISU enters the series 11-16. First pitch Saturday is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT Saturday with game two to follow at 1:30 p.m. Sunday's contest will begin at 11 a.m.
