Ava Boyer Named MVC Freshman of the Week

ST. LOUIS -- Illinois State softball's Ava Boyer was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. It is Boyer's first-career MVC weekly honor and the fourth for a Redbird this season.

Boyer, a freshman from Tuscola, Ill., started all three games at second base last week for the Redbirds. She led Illinois State with a .625 batting average (5-for-8) with three doubles, one RBI, two stolen bases and four runs scored. All three of those doubles came in her 4-for-4 day at the plate against the Fighting Illini on March 31, breaking the program record for doubles in a single game and tying the NCAA record this season. She also posted a team-high on-base percentage of .667 while being perfect in the field with nine putouts and eight assists over the three contests.

Boyer and the Redbirds are back in action tomorrow, facing UIC in a conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Flames Field.
