Women’s Tennis Prepares for Trio of Matches

NORMAL, Ill. – The Illinois State women's tennis team is set to compete in Oxford, Ohio against Miami University Friday, March 6 and No. 71 Wisconsin Saturday, March 7. Both competitions will begin at 10 a.m. CT.  The squad will then travel to St. Louis, Missouri to battle Saint Louis Tuesday, March 10, beginning at 12 p.m. CT.

"This will be a very challenging trip for us physically" said head coach Maja Kovacek.  "We are playing four matches in six days, one of those being a ranked opponent (No. 71 Wisconsin). It's a great opportunity for us to see where we stand on a national level. We have had two weeks to prepare and we're excited to get out there and compete again."

This weekend will mark the first time in ISU women's tennis history the Redbirds battle Miami University and No. 71 Wisconsin. ISU remains 2-5 after defeating Butler and Indianapolis, and suffering losses by No. 46 Illinois, IPFW, Eastern Illinois, Wyoming and Nebraska.  Miami University holds a 3-5 overall record after wins over Eastern Kentucky, No. 67 Furman and Dayton, and suffering defeats by No. 49 Indiana, Boston University, No. 62 Dartmouth, Xavier and Georgia State.  Wisconsin is 5-3 overall after claiming victories over Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Akron, Utah State and UTEP, and losing to Drake University, Marquette and No. 66 Tulane.

Last season, the Redbirds edged Saint Louis in competition, 4-3.  Currently, Saint Louis is 5-2 overall, winning over Creighton, SIUE, Western Illinois, Southeast Missouri State and Missouri State, and suffering setbacks against Louisville and UIC.
