HAMILTON, Ohio – The Illinois State women's tennis team suffered a loss by Miami University, 7-0, Friday morning at the Riverside Athletic Club.
The duo of junior Kadi Ilves and freshman Donna Haycock claimed the only victory in No.1 doubles play, defeating MU's Christina Guerrazzi and Nelli Ponomareva, 6-3. In No. 2 doubles, sophomore Chanel Scudiero and freshman Catherine Shulman suffered a loss by MU's Alix Thurman and Ana Rajkovic, 6-1, while the duo of freshman Valerija Gercar and sophomore Natalia Parchowska lost to MU's Ramona Costea and Andreea Badileanu, 6-3, in No.3 doubles.
Ilves put up a good fight against MU's Thurman in No. 1 singles play before eventually falling, 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4). In No. 2 singles, Haycock was defeated by MU's Guerrazzi, 6-2, 6-3, while Shulman fell to MU's Ponomareva, 6-4, 6-2 in No. 3 singles. Meanwhile, Gercar suffered a defeat by MU's Badileanu, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 3 singles, while Scudiero lost to MU's Rajkovic, 6-0, 6-1 in No.4 singles. Likewise, Parchowska was defeated by MU's Costea, 6-2, 6-1.
The Redbirds will be back in action Saturday at 2:30 p.m. CT in Oxford, Ohio battling No. 71 Wisconsin.
