WICHITA, Kan. – The Illinois State women's tennis team fell to No. 32 Wichita State, 7-0, Saturday afternoon in Missouri Valley Conference action at the Sheldon Coleman Complex.
The Shockers topped ISU in all three flights of doubles play. The duo of junior Kadi Ilves and freshman Donna Haycock suffered a defeat by WSU's Julia Schiller and Gabriela Porubin, 8-5, in No. 1 doubles. Meanwhile, in No. 2 doubles, sophomore Chanel Scudiero and freshman Catherine Shulman fell to WSU's Lucia Kovalova and Aleks Trifunovic, 8-0, while WSU's Giulia Guidetti and Rebecca Pedrazzi won by forfeit against sophomore Natalia Parchowska and freshman Valerija Gercar, 2-1, in No. 3 doubles.
In singles competition, WSU's Schiller beat Ilves, 6-0, 6-4, in No. 1 singles play, while Haycock was defeated by WSU's Abby Stevens, 6-1, 6-0, in No. 2 singles. Likewise, Scudiero fell short to WSU's Guidetti, 6-2, 6-1, in No. 3 singles, while Shulman suffered a setback by WSU's Luca Pump, 6-2, 6-3, in No. 4 singles. WSU's Summer Schlotterback and Whitley Quan won by forfeit in No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Redbirds will be back in action Sunday, April 12 to battle conference foe Missouri State. The competition is set to begin at 10 a.m. in Springfield, Missouri.
