NORMAL, Ill. – Junior Jakub Eisner of the Illinois State men's tennis team was named this week's Missouri Valley Conference men's tennis athlete of the week.
The Redbird junior was nominated because of his stellar singles play last week against conference opponent Wichita State. While Illinois State dropped the match, 1-6, Eisner notched the lone redbird victory in the match. Eisner defeated WSU's Tin Ostojic in the No. 1 flight in straight-sets, 6-3, 6-4. Ostojic, who ranks No. 40 in the country, only lost for the fourth time all season, while Eisner recorded his seventh win, good for third-best on the team.
Eisner is currently 9-14 in singles play this year, while posting a 7-11 record this spring. Eisner is also part of the team's best doubles duo, going 9-12 and 8-11 this spring with junior partner Rolando Torrellas.
