EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The Illinois State women's tennis team fell on the road to Evansville, 5-2, Saturday afternoon.
Illinois State (2-17) was swept in all three doubles flights against Evansville (10-9) Saturday. Junior Kadi Ilves and freshman Donna Haycock battled in their No. 1 flight against the Purple Aces' Marketa Trousilova and Marina Moreno, but eventually lost, 8-4. The underclassmen duo of Chanel Scudiero and Catherine Shulman also lost their match in the No. 2 flight to Evansville's Natasha James and Kennedy Craig, 8-2, while freshman Valerija Gercar and sophomore Natalia Parchowska were beaten in their No. 3 flight.
The Redbirds did secure a couple of the match's singles flights, but were unable to mount a full comeback. IIves looked impressive, winning her No. 1 flight in straight sets, while Shuman defeated Andjela Brguljan of Evansville in a thrilling, three-set No. 4 flight, 4-6, 6-4, 10-5. Haycock, Scurdiero and Gercar, however, all lost their singles bouts, while Parchowska's No. 6 flight went to Evansville by default.
The Redbirds are back in action Sunday morning, when the squad will travel to Carbondale to take on conference foe Southern Illinois in the regular-season finale at 10 a.m.
