JONESBORO, Ark. - Jordan Fahel continued his high-quality play during the final day of the ASU Red Wolf Intercollegiate Sunday, as he scored a final round score of 75 for a three-round score of 214 (68-71-75), placing third on the individual leaderboard. The Illinois State men's golf team finished the tournament tied in seventh place with a team score of 892 (292-299-301).
Head coach Ray Kralis was very pleased with Fahel's performance in the tournament.
"It was great to see Jordan be right there in contention to win individually," Kralis said. "While there is pain in coming up just short, he can build on this going into Indiana and conference championship."
Fahel led the way in the final round and was followed by Zach Burry, who had a two-day score of 220 (74-73-73). Jason Marrs carded an overall score of 227 (77-75-75), while Tyler Pope-Ferguson shot a 231 (73-80-78). Tyler Gentilella shot an overall score of 239 (78-80-81). Gentilella signed an incorrect score card for the second round, giving him an 80 for that round. Kralis was hoping for a stronger finish from the team after playing so well the first day.
"I fully expected us to make a statement with our play in the third round, but our performance was not anything close to what I had hoped for or what we needed," Kralis said. "To fulfill our potential, we need to finish rounds and tournaments in strong fashion, and we had a great opportunity to do that this weekend, but didn't capitalize."
Delta State took first place, carding a team score of 876 (296-291-289), followed by DePaul (884) and Tennessee Tech (886). Illinois State finished seventh out of 21 teams, defeating Missouri Valley Conference competitors Missouri State (905), Northern Iowa (913) and Southern Illinois (923).
The Redbirds will be back in action at the Hoosier Invitational, beginning April 11, before the MVC Championship.
