Romshek, Heineman Earn Scholar-Athlete Honors

ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Conference has announced the 2015 softball scholar-athlete team and Illinois State's Regan Romshek was named to the First Team, while Annie Heineman was named an honorable mention.

Romshek was a force in the Redbirds' lineup, hitting .347 with 15 home runs and 37 RBIs. Romshek was second in the Missouri Valley Conference in home runs and was three RBIs away from becoming just the fourth Redbird to ever record 40 hits, runs and RBIs.

Romshek led the team in doubles and triples with 11 and two, respectively. She also had the second-highest slugging percentage at .707. In the circle, Romshek won a team-high 15 games, including two in the MVC Tournament. The junior also struck out 114 batters. In the classroom, Romshek has a 3.71 grade-point average in community health education.

Heineman started all 56 games for the Redbirds in center field and hit leadoff for one of the best offenses in ISU history. She posted team highs in batting average (.356), hits (64) and stolen bases (11). Heineman scored 42 runs, which was second on the team, and finished the year with nine doubles, a triple and seven home runs.

She had the most at-bats on the team, at 180, yet struck out the fewest amount of times among players with 140-plus at-bats. Heineman had an on-base percentage of .435, which was second on the team and slugged .533. She also sports a grade-point average of 3.69 in speech pathology.

Heineman and Romshek joined the 40-40 club at ISU after each totaling more than 40 hits and runs this season. The feat has been accomplished just 29 times in program history. This is the third major postseason award for both players, as Heineman was named to the All-MVC First Team and Romshek was named to the Second Team. Both players were named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Mideast Region Third Team.

Illinois State finished the season 25-31 and advanced to the semifinals of the MVC Tournament before falling to Missouri State.
