NORMAL, Ill. – Illinois State head football coach Brock Spack added another potential weapon to his receiving corps Monday, with the addition of Cincinnati transfer wide receiver Jeremy Graves to the 2015 roster. The junior wide out will have two years of eligibility remaining for the Redbirds and will be eligible to play immediately.
"We were looking to add some depth at the receiver position, after some losses to graduation last year, and Jeremy gives us a big body with good top-end speed," Spack stated. "From all accounts, he's a good kid, a hard worker and a talented athlete, and should help us at that position going forward."
The 6-foot-2, 195-pound receiver did not see game action in 2014 for the Bearcats, but played in 25 games over his first two seasons in the program. As a sophomore in 2013, the Cleveland, Ohio, native caught six passes for 47 yards.
Graves was ranked as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, Scout.com and 247sports.com coming out of Maple Heights High School and rated as the No. 143 wide receiver in the class of 2012 by Scout.com. He graded as the No. 184 wide receiver and the No. 76 prospect in the state of Ohio in 2012 by 247sports.com. Â He also graded out as the No. 114 wide receiver in the class of 2012 and the No. 50 prospect in the 2012 class in the state of Ohio by ESPN. Â A 2011 Associated Press Northeast Lakes all-district team second team selection, Graves participated in the 2011 Northeast Ohio Thanksgiving All Star Classic.
Illinois State will begin its defense of the MVFC title and begin its quest for a return to the FCS title game on Aug. 6, when the Redbirds start fall training camp at Hancock Stadium. Â ISU opens the 2015 season at FBS foe Iowa on Sept. 5 at Kinnick Stadium.
